”Last summer, these Daiku Time remixes came to life in a spontaneous late-night session at Ascalypso’s bedroom studio in downtown Osaka. The original track “大工タイム” (Daiku Time) is the namesake of this project / party / label — a playful, groovy rap about girl power and self-determination made as a joke and uploaded to YouTube by founders Yutani and Kishi-san nearly ten years ago. While they may call it their “dark history” (like much of mid-2010s YouTube), it still slaps as an iconique and irresistible jam. Thankfully, despite their retroactive cringe (lol), the password was forgotten, and the track remains for us to mess with hehehe… ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ With help from a ‘geek friend’, we managed to excavate not only the original track but the stems (!!) from the lost YouTube account, and in a hilariously clandestine operation, set about making surprise remixes for the Daiku Jikan party at club Daphnia the following day. Hunched over laptops, squinting into sequencers, warping vocals and test-driving beats deep into the night, we made some fun edits, which have been recorded and refined into this special release made with love. This comes to you from a place of fun, friendship and fate. We can assure you many laughs, beers and more have been shared during the production of these tracks and hope you enjoy them as much as we have. United by Daiku time.
