Tranquility Bass - They Came In Peace (Sound Metaphors) 12inch
”Originally released in 1993 on West Coast label Exist Dance, They Came In Peace sits somewhere between trip hop, downtempo, breaks, psychedelic music and the emerging West Coast rave sound. Produced by Michael Kandel and Tom Chasteen, the track draws on early low-tempo breaks and the distinctive feel of West Coast electronics, with deep bass, loose percussion, hazy synths and psychedelic textures coming together into a slow-moving, immersive groove. At the time, it sounded completely outside the usual rave and techno framework, favouring atmosphere, space and hypnotic repetition. A track that would slowly grow in importance over the years, becoming a true back-of-the-crate essential for early morning sessions and deep, heads-down listening. More than thirty years later, They Came In Peace still feels futuristic, strange and deeply hypnotic, a timeless piece of early-90s West Coast electronic music.”
